Free State SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Mohlomela Kareli in the early hours of Monday 17 June 2024, Moalasi’s younger brother received missed calls from his sister’s cellphone just after midnight. “He tried to call her back, but her phone was on voicemail. He suspected that something was wrong and went to look for her at her place in Rocklands but could not find her, her vehicle was also not in the yard,” Kareli said.

Kareli said that the young brother reported Moalasi missing at Kagisanong Police Station and a search party was launched. “On the same Monday, the police received information about the body of a female allegedly dumped next to Dewetsdorp road with multiple injuries.
“Members rushed to the scene and it was discovered that the body was that of Moalasi who was reported missing earlier at Kagisanong police station. A manhunt was launched for the murder suspect. Information led members to the house in Phase 2 where the deceased’s boyfriend is staying,” he said.
Kareli added that the deceased’s car was found parked in the boyfriend’s yard. According to Kareli, there was a standoff between the boyfriend and the police he refused to exit his house. The man was eventually arrested and charged with murder.
Free State Dept. of Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba noted the dept. has started offering counseling to Tsoseletso Secondary School teachers, staff, and students. Education activist Hendrick Makaneta denounced the violent killing.
“It is encouraging that police have already arrested the perpetrator. We also hope that the prosecuting authority will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Moalosi gets justice. The loss of life, particularly that of a teacher, is very distressing as it robs the country’s learners of quality time for learning and teaching,” said Makaneta.
